Mechanical Computing In The Navy

These vintage mechanical computing machines are ingenious solutions to quick lookups of values in a known table. They're so elegantly simple, and yet not intuitive to imagine in the first place. It's a multi video series, but here is part 1 if you're interested!

Antarctica Photos

It is so easy to forget how epic our own planet can be, but this little gallery should help slap some humility back into your eye sockets. Nature is still amazing.

Some Bullshit Happening Somewhere

Now in a desperate attempt to fill a week of posting here's some bullshit that happened somewhere today. Instances of bullshit like this are on the rise.

Old Spice Man Gives Back

Want to spend more intimate time in the bathroom with the man your man could smell like? Hear more of his outlandish tales as he responds to random internet comments, tweets, and the like? This ad campaign is damn amazing... its not every day I go out of my way to listen to more marketing.

Real Life "Up" House

Man, I'm embarrassed to think that I dismissed the flying house so easily when I watched the movie. And by that I mean everything I pointed out in the film still would have prevented it from flying, but its awesome to see a flying house and imagine a poor boyscout clinging onto the patio.

Crazy Honey Badgers

I'm sure the original voice over was informative and interesting, but I suppose this less... scientific one has its merits too. Well, at least for laughter.

Homemade Street Fighter Combos

The title makes this sound like some sort of fail video, but actually these lads and ladies deliver some bad ass Street Fighter inspired moves. They've got the crazy lens flaired K.O. and everything!

For those who enjoy the men:

For those who enjoy the ladies:

Minecraft is awesome, and video's made using Minecraft are twice as cool. Okay, cool is probably the wrong word but they make me laugh. I heard some guy "Taio Cruz" even went so far as to make a parody of this song called Dynamite or something... I hear its popular ;)

Reliving The Past Through Photos

Irina Werning admits that this project shows his OCD side, but its amazing to browse though. He's found people's retro photographs of themselves and then gathered those people to react the same photos many years later. It's clever and invokes some nostalgia in me despite never having known these people.

Jet Powered Skiing

Those of you who know me know that I've got an unhealthy obsession with powering myself via jet turbines. So every time I see something like this I'm simultaneously inspired and worried that I'll be too late to the game to be unique. Ah well, it's certainly fun to imagine.

Pirate Ship Bedroom

Is it possible to have a cooler bedroom than this? Maybe if it had a spiral slide to travel between floors in a fake closet and a jail cell with an iron door? Oh wait, it does! Damn, nothing else in this kid's life is going to live up to the expectations his parents are setting up for him.

The Saga Of Biorn

Hilarious and well animated. You have just got to watch it. I mean, how often do you have flaming nuns as such a casual backdrop?

Plotting To Steal Easter

As Easter approaches, consider why the Easter bunny is so willing to help Jesus out with the whole scheme. Perhaps its innocent love, or perhaps its something so much more sinister...

Massive Avalanche

It's videos like this that make me want to be a ski patrol guy or something. Well, whatever position it is that gets to fire artillery at mountains and watch massive avalanches, and then get paid for it. That just doesn't seem fair.

Goose Whisperer

If you haven't discovered Tobuscus before, he's pretty amusing in his own particular style. He now has a weekly cute/win/fail contest where a video from each category is shown and then voted on by the viewers. Some of them are hilarious.

Chronicles Of Rick Roll

A movie about internet memes. I can't tell if this is a clever idea or just obnoxious, but its hard to imagine that a video based on viral stuff won't at least go a little viral, right? I can haz views?

Glitch Mob - Between Two Points

I haven't figured out the nuances of it yet, but it certainly seems deep. Heh, and regardless I like the styling and movement they used.

Kobe And The Black Mamba

I'm not sure how Nike came up with this hilarious advertisement, but I'm damn impressed. It doesn't over sell the shoes but they're certainly there. More importantly, this is the kind of stuff that everyone will send to their friends and remember. Touché Nike.

Multimedia Book

Its hard to tell with these kinds of things if they're the future or crazy, but I rather like where the author is going with this app. It's a "book" for the iPad that integrates video and some little interactive sequences with the evidence from the case. Sadly I don't have one of those over sized iPhones so I can't try it for myself. Ah well.

Shadow Fighting Samurai

Peter Pan has got nothing on this guy's shadow fighting abilities. Even the cast of lost could have used his skills.
